My name is Seb Willett and I’ve been an Architectural and Urban Designer at Clague Architects in the UK for nearly 20 years. When I’m not there I also dabble in illustrating… printmaking…. mapmaking… graphicdesigning… productdesigning… photographying… storytellering… filmmakeringing…

But, above all, I love to draw and I love to inspire that passion for drawing in other people; whether that’s through sharing my own artwork, showing people how I make it, or helping other people make their own.

I began my career as an architectural apprentice in 2006, and I was one of the last to be trained on a traditional drawing board. After that, one by one, the drawing boards were replaced by computer towers, and the gentle scratch of pen and pencil was drowned out by the click-clacking of mouse and keyboard.

But I refused to give up my pens, pencils and paper. Although I did learn how to use CAD (with much grumbling), I’ve always preferred the natural feel of designing by hand and the aesthetic of a well crafted hand drawing.

I decided to carve my own path back towards that craft. I invested in a Wacom Intuos tablet and spent hundreds of hours learning how to use Photoshop as part of my creative drawing and design process.

I eventually created my own digital tools and techniques to mimic the look and feel of drawing by hand. By 2012, I had my first Wacom Cintiq tablet and I was able to get back on the drawing board - abeit now a digital one.

Nearly ten years (and four Cintiqs and countless sheets of paper) later, I’ve perfected a set of digital tools that can replicate traditional media and integrate seamlessly with my analogue drawing and painting work. I now enjoy creating art and illustrations of all kinds of subjects with a huge range of tools at my disposal, across all forms of digital and analogue media.

Having put thousands of hours of experimentation and testing into those tools and techniques, I also love being able to share them and help other people find their own drawing styles. As well as showing off the finished pieces, I want to share my experience and some of the tips and tricks I’ve picked up along the way to help other people grow as creatives. If I can inspire even one person to pick up a pen and start drawing then I’ll consider that a success!
